The Blessed Name

This Sunday, June 4th, we will celebrate the world premiere of a new vocal/organ composition called “The Blessed Name.” It was composed by our very own Michael White, a member of CCRP.

So, what is a “world premiere”? This is the phrase we use in the classical music world for the first time a piece is being performed. It’s a really exciting moment for any composer/performer’s life, to hear a brand-new piece of music being performed.
Michael has set the text of George Bethune, who was a philosopher and minister who served a congregation in Philadelphia in the 1830s.

“The Blessed Name” poem by George Bethune (1805-1862)
There is no name so sweet on earth.
No name so sweet in heaven,
The name before His wondrous birth to Christ the Saviour given.

O Jesus, by your matchless name,

Your grace shall fail us never;
Today as yesterday the same, we’ll bless your name forever.

For there’s no name ear ever heard.

So dear, so sweet as Jesus.
We love to sing of Christ out King and hail Him, blessed Jesus.

O Jesus, by your matchless name your grace shall fail us never.
Today as yesterday the same, we’ll bless your name forever.
And hail Him, blessed Jesus.
