May Notes from Fr. Michael

Throughout the Easter season, we read the Acts of the Apostles. The Book of Acts tell us of the early church and how the followers of Jesus spread the good news of the Gospel. While the events of Acts might have occurred 2000 years ago, its beauty is still relevant for today. We, as a Church, are still struggling about how to be faithful followers of Jesus and not get distracted by our human frailties. Easter calls us to new life and new beginnings, but there is also fear about going forward. The fear of the apostles which paralyzed them was overcome through the power of the Holy Spirit given at Pentecost.

How can we become courageous and open to the movement of the Spirit? I believe we need to allow room for some emptiness to be filled with something new and living. If not, we become stagnant and die.

I challenge us each to go back and reflect upon those early followers of Jesus: their fears, their courage, and their new life. How do we spread the Good News of Jesus not in the Mediterranean, but here in Ridley Park? I would love to hear your thoughts and dreams.
