Marriage
We delight to share this sacramental action with two people seek to join their lives together in love, and in Christ’s name.
Who?
You don’t have to be a member to hold your celebration Christ Church Ridley Park. All celebrations are officiated by our rector, The Reverend Michael R. Ruk, in the Episcopal tradition. He is authorized to perform weddings by both the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the State of New Jersey. All couples are welcome to celebrate the sacrament of marriage. Father Michael also performs commitment ceremonies. Contact Father Michael to learn more.
The policies of the Episcopal Church allow for the marriage of a divorced person with the consent of the bishop. This is a process that can take several weeks to months.
Same-gender couples may certainly be married here and must follow the same steps and meet the same requirements.
Service?
The service will be one of our approved Christian liturgies. The classic pattern of our marriage liturgies do allow for some variation, however it is limited and at the discretion of the clergy.
The date is at the discretion of the clergy.
The clergy retains the right to decline to perform any marriage, at any time, as a matter of personal judgment and discretion. For example, if either person arrives at the wedding inebriated, the service will not continue.
Preparation?
We are required to ensure that “both parties have been instructed as to the nature, meaning and purpose of Holy Matrimony.” Three to four one-hour sessions involving our theology of marriage, relationship examination, and specific arrangements for the liturgy.
Music?
Our music director will be the organist for all weddings. Any exceptions must be cleared by the organist. Our organist will assist you in choosing appropriate music for your wedding, however it is expected that it be appropriate and usually somewhat classical.
Seating?
The seating capacity of the church is comfortably packed at 170.
Photography?
Photography during the liturgy must be approved by the clergy, must be unobtrusive; without a flash during the liturgy and without sound if possible. We do have live streaming available.
