Easter Vigil
April 8, 2023 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Come light the holy fire outdoors on the Christ Church lawn. This service takes place outdoors, so please dress accordingly and bring a lawn chair.
In the ancient world the new day began when the sun had set. Easter Vigil is an ancient practice of the church that went dormant for many centuries and has been brought back to life in the last 70 years. Some Vigil’s are first thing in the morning, others are boldly elaborate. Ours is neither – but it is holy and lifegiving and full of Easter thrills just the same. Unless weather gets in our way, this is all outside in the front yard. That means you should bring your comfy lawn chairs and a good coat. It also means that toddlers can toddle somewhat freely (there is fire!). The telling of the sacred story is creative and for all ages (we need our creatives to step up to tell or sing). We renew our Baptismal promises, and we have a holy feast of the Eucharist, with some surprises. If someone you know is curious about what we are up to but don’t care for stodgy – this is the service. If someone you know has family obligations for the Bunny Bunny part of the holiday – then Saturday Eve Vigil is the way to prioritize what matters first.
The service will relocate to inside if needed due to weather. We also have a handful of lawn chairs available for those who do not have one.
