Absalom Jones Celebration: February 17, 2024

On February 17, The Episcopal Diocese of Pennsylvania will honor the life and ministry of the Blessed Absalom Jones, the first African American priest in The Episcopal Church, with a service at Episcopal Academy’s chapel. The celebrant for the service is The Right Reverend Daniel G. P. Gutiérrez. The preacher for the morning is The Rev. Canon, Ronald C. Byrd, Sr., The Episcopal Church Missioner for African Descent Ministries.
The gathering starts at 10:00 am, and will include performances by Ruth Naomi Floyd, Shafiq Hicks, Capa High School Choir, St. James School Choir and Pine Forge Academy Choir and The Philadelphia Community Mass Choir.
The Eucharistic service begins at 11:00 AM. The diocese invites all acolytes and banner bearers from every church in the diocese to participate in the processional of this exceptional diocesan-wide service. If you would like to represent CCRP, please reach out.
