Hannah Lane
It began in practicality. Most of our larger deliveries come to the Green Doors on the ‘alley’ that runs between our neighbor’s homes and the parish buildings. This ‘alley’ is also the rectory driveway. Trying to describe to a new delivery truck or service person how to get to those green doors, well it wasn’t easy. So I began to ask if we could get the ‘alley’ named. My first ideas were silly – and then someone asked ‘what if we named it for Hannah?’ As long-term community members know, an amazing young woman, member of the choir, and alley neighbor, Hannah Shickley died in a car accident several years ago. As soon as I brought it up with others, the answer was a heart-tugging YES. It took a while, but it was finally approved as a private road named Hannah Lane. Then during Christmas week, while several of her childhood neighbor friends were home, we were able to put the sign in with prayer and reflection, followed by a nice gathering of the now ‘Hannah Lane’ neighbors.
